Gn: 17:3-9; Jn 8:51-59
Today’s Gospel is yet another instance of Jesus being hated for his claims.
It appears as if Jesus has been fighting a battle with those who gather about him only to challenge his claims and find fault with his statements.
The scenario helps us understand how helpless we become if we happen to be around negative people.
They reject Jesus. But when Jesus the Truth is rejected, embracing sins happens by default.
It is as a result of this that they attempt to stone Jesus.
In theology, we understand that ‘Faith’ is an infused virtue. In other words, it is God’s gift.
If we need God’s grace to sustain our faith, then we seek God’s help fervently to grow in it.
The Jews in the Gospel were privileged to be the chosen people. But they fall out of grace because they cannot see the truth of Jesus being the Messiah. They make no efforts to implore God’s mercy to open themselves to the truth of Jesus.
Let us pray that our faith may be nurtured through God’s grace so that we find the truth of Christ.
