Acts 9:31-42; Jn 6:60-69
Today’s Gospel highlights ‘movement.’
Some of the disciples of Jesus find his teachings very hard to accept. Some others believe in him.
Such belief or unbelief triggers a reaction.
As a result, some of them move away from Jesus, while some others are drawn to him.
It is in this context that Jesus reminds them of faith as God’s gift.
If we do not nurture the gift of faith, then we might end up returning to our ‘former’ way of life, just as it happened in the lives of some of the disciples who left Jesus.
But for the apostles who choose to remain with him, that Jesus possesses the words of eternal life animates their continued journey with him.
Today’s Gospel cautions us that if our journey is not toward Jesus, we may be drifting away from him.
There is no middle point in faith. Either we remain with Jesus or move away from him.
Which side is our movement directed to: away or towards Jesus?
