The Needed Disposition!

Acts 28:16-20;30-31; Jn 21:20-25

Today’s Gospel offers clarity for Christian life, and it comes in two ways.

Unnecessary Curiosity: Peter’s curiosity is rebuked by the Lord. It is a gentle reminder that undivided attention is needed to follow the Lord so that we will be able to shed whatever does not match up to the expectations of those called. Though curiosity can be an avenue to knowledge, curiosity about people is different from curiosity about ideas. The former is to be shunned, whereas the latter is to be sought after. Jesus directs Peter in this direction.

Necessary Disposition: As a disciple of Christ, what we need is the disposition that characterizes St. John himself. He considers himself as one who testifies to things about the Lord. The willingness to be a faithful witness to the Lord makes him more observant and diligent. When we are meticulous in our search, we can unfailingly discover the God who is always with us.

What do we have between the two? What do we need to be faithful disciples of Christ?
