Col 2:6-15; Lk 6:12-19
In today’s Gospel, Jesus chooses Twelve apostles. It is not surprising to find that crucial moments in Jesus’ life always followed prayer. Authentic spirituality inspires the right actions.
Secondly, two sentences deserve our attention. Both sentences mark the beginning of the respective paragraphs: ‘Jesus departed to the mountain to pray’; ‘And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground.’ I believe that there is an intrinsic connection between the two. The sentences help us discover that Jesus’ union with God always drove him towards people. Jesus demonstrates how prayer can and should be seen as solidary action.
Let us imitate the model of Jesus so that our authentic spirituality will inspire radical commitment in support of suffering humanity.
