Calling Good Evil!

2 Sm 5:1-7,10; Mk 3:22-30

In today’s Gospel, Jesus fights against a serious accusation from the Scribes.

The Scribes or the Pharisees did not just disagree with Jesus. They were so desperate to humiliate and vilify him.

By now accusing Jesus of having a partnership with Satan, they have gone too far.

They have not just rejected Jesus but the Holy Spirit in Him, because Jesus was ‘led by the Spirit’ (Mt 4:1).

By calling the good actions of Jesus evil and equating the power of the Holy Spirit to that of Satan, the Scribes prove to be extremely vicious.

I only remember the verse from Paradise Lost wherein John Milton’s Satan utters these words: ‘All good to me is lost; Evil, be thou my Good.’

By vilifying Jesus, the Spirit of God in Him, and his good works, we find the attitude of the Scribes reaching a new low in which they surrender to ‘evil’ as their guide against Jesus.

Let us never commit the mistake of ascribing good actions to evil motives.

Everything good comes from God (Gen 1:31) and to deny it with a malicious intention is greatly sinful.
