Fearful Yet Overjoyed!

Acts: 2:14, 22-33; Mt 28:8-15

Today’s Gospel helps us understand the mixed reaction about Christ’s resurrection.

After his death, the disciples of Jesus were paralyzed by fear. Since they could not comprehend the reality of the resurrection, once again they were afraid. Sometimes what escapes our comprehension produces fear in us. Though they were yet to embrace the full meaning and significance of the resurrection, the fact that they would be meeting with their Lord and Master again in Galilee brings them back as a community of disciples.

However, all is not well with the enemies of Jesus. Those who plotted his death and orchestrated it now discredit the reality of the resurrection and turn it into a mere rumor. We find them consumed with jealousy through and through. In all these, they had taken no effort to perceive the truth about the Messiah, and they continue to be hard-hearted, unable to acknowledge Christ for who he is.

Our response to Christ’s resurrection depends on if we are friends or enemies of the Lord.

Those who accept the resurrection will allow the truth to transform their lives. Those who deny it will stay stuck in their past.

Let us pray that the truth of the resurrection may change our lives for the better.
