Acts 8:1-8; Jn 6:35-40

In today’s Gospel, Jesus makes clear who has sent him and the purpose of his coming.

Regarding the question of who sent him, Jesus clearly says he was sent by his Father. Jesus lives his life from this identity of being God-sent. This is why it becomes easy for him to reflect his Father’s love in everything he does.

Secondly, Jesus clarifies that because he is God-sent, he carries out the mission mandate given by his Father and does not have his separate mission agenda. Hence, for Jesus, the mission is to do the will of his Father.

When Jesus thus enlightens the crowd regarding his mission, we are prompted to ask, ‘What is actually God’s will that Jesus has come to fulfill on the earth?’

Jesus is tasked with saving everyone without losing any, though faith in him becomes a precondition for partaking in this privilege of redemption.

We must note that God’s plan and Jesus’ saving act align on universal salvation. In planning the world’s redemption and achieving it on the cross, the Father and the Son remain well-united.

This is God’s gift for humanity.

Let us pray that our hearts may remain disposed to reap the reward of faith.
