Is 11:1-10; Lk 10:21-24
Today’s Gospel highlights the greatness of the childlike.
When Jesus praises his disciples and followers as the childlike, privileged with knowledge of his revelation, he regards them higher than the prophets and kings who, though longing for such revelation, were not blessed with it.
When Jesus hails, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see and hear what you hear,’ he lets us understand that revelation about him is a blessing beyond comparison. However, here comes the catch.
What Jesus leaves unsaid when he talks of the greatness of the revelation about him is the binding nature of such revelation. In other words, Jesus implies that while the revelation about him is certainly a privilege, it is also a responsibility.
To put things in perspective, we may rephrase what Jesus left unsaid. We must ask: ‘What have we done with what we have seen? What is our response to what we have heard?’
As Christians, how has our encounter with Jesus changed our lives? If we have had the privilege of listening to God’s Word, how has the experience of listening to Jesus transformed us?
If the revelation about Jesus has failed to change us, what else will?
Knowing Jesus is one thing, and living him is entirely different. It is easy to know about Jesus. It is harder to live like him.
Let us pray for the wisdom to make others understand that we had an encounter with and an experience of Jesus.
