Bank of Heaven!

2 Kgs 11:1-4, 9-18, 20; Mt 6:19-23

Today’s Gospel invites us to reflect on the kind of treasure that we have been working hard to accumulate.

By showing that our hearts and treasures are connected, the Gospel also comments on the place of storage.

The passage highlights that where we store our treasure depends on what our treasure is.

If our treasures are goodness and virtues, they will be stored in the ‘Bank of Heaven.’

If our material possessions cannot make us godly, they are of this world and of no use.

Though our goodness and virtues remain abstract to the physical eye, their proper place is heaven.

Whereas our material possessions may satisfy our eyes while blinding our vision to heavenly reality.

Since eyes represent the inner guiding vision, which is the realm of hearts, Jesus wants us to pay attention to what illuminates our paths.

If our inner vision and treasures align with the intentions of God, we certainly make our deposits in the Bank of Heaven!
