Mi 2:1-5; Mt 12:14-21
Today’s Gospel invites us to learn from Jesus the art of responding to harmful situations in life.
The beginning of the Gospel highlights the open threat to Jesus’ life.
Yet, Jesus is neither agitated about it nor is his mission hindered by it.
On the contrary, as if to deal a blow to his accusers, Jesus carries on with his ministry quietly from an unknown location.
His demeanor fulfills the prophecy regarding the ideal prophet in the Scriptures.
It is also true that the more Jesus resists, the wider his popularity grows.
There is something about Jesus that we cannot miss in today’s Gospel.
Jesus responds to people, not to situations.
Jesus heals people to manifest God’s love, not for fame and glory.
Jesus reveals inclusion as God’s agenda, not bias and discrimination.
While the enemies of Jesus find something to hate about him, Jesus finds a reason to spread love.
We are blessed to have a Master who can only shower love in the face of hatred.
Let us pray that the equanimity of Jesus becomes our disposition and attitude.
