Faith as Hinge!

Acts 8:1-8; Jn 6:35-40

Today’s Gospel reflects on Jesus accomplishing God’s will on earth. 

We can highlight three points. 

Will of the Father: Jesus reflects on God’s will for humanity. God has already ‘given’ the care of humanity to Jesus. Eternal life for everyone is God’s agenda for humanity. 

Mission of the Son: Jesus has come to fulfill God’s will, which is not to lose out on anyone who comes to him in faith. Jesus gathers all those who believe in him. Jesus is in charge of carrying out the grand design of God for humanity. 

Role of Faith: If we have already been ‘given’ to the care of Jesus, returning to him in faith becomes a precondition on our part. Though it is God’s will that everyone is destined for eternal life, those who can inherit it are those who believe in Jesus, who was sent by God to do His will on earth. Faith is the bridge that connects us to Jesus, who comes from God. In this sense, faith is the boat with which we cross the ocean of earthly life to enter our heavenly abode. 

In faith, we come to Jesus, and through faith, we are saved. 

‘Faith is the hinge on which victory turns.’
