Jb 42, 1-3, 5-6, 12-17; Lk 10:17-24

Today’s Gospel highlights heaven as the goal and objective of Christian life.

When the disciples return from the mission, rejoicing that they could drive out demons in Jesus’ name, he reminds them of the higher form of happiness, which is heavenly life, and that their names have been written on the roster of the citizens of heaven.

Jesus implies that our existence cannot lose sight of this ultimate Christian goal.

Jesus also hints at the fact that his disciples are privileged with the reward of eternal life because they believe in God’s revelation that occurred in him.

Unfortunately, while the common people believed in Jesus, the religious leaders and political rulers of his time doubted the revelation that happened in Jesus.

As a result, while the childlike could save themselves through their faith, the unbelieving lost the opportunity to partake of the same privilege.

Faith was the wisdom of the childlike, and disbelief became the curse of the so-called wise.

Though God’s revelation is ongoing, it takes the eyes of faith to discover it.

Let us pray that our eyes of faith may discover God and help us enter eternal life.
