Jl 1:13-15, 2:1-2; Lk 11:15-26

In today’s gospel, Jesus is unjustly accused of performing exorcism by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons.

When many people looked at Jesus’ goodness as an indication of the Kingdom he preached about, some had problems with his fame and popularity.

Consumed by jealousy, they dare to blame Jesus for his goodness. It so blinds them that they can see nothing good in what he is doing.

Theirs is a two-layered accusation. They do not just denounce the good he is carrying out. But they ascribe the possibility of doing any miracle only through his partnership with the prince of demons. The two are rolled into one! They cast Jesus in a bad light just to serve their ulterior motives.

Like knows like! When humble people looked at God in Jesus, his haters looked for a way to spot the demon. What we see depends on who we are!

There can be nothing more vicious and wicked than naming something good as evil.

We must pray for the ability to recognize what is good and be spent in the cause of promoting it!
