Is 10:5-7,13-16; Mt 11:25-27
Today’s Gospel highlights the need for humility and surrender to inherit the knowledge of spiritual truths.
Jesus makes two things clear in the passage.
1.Jesus reflects the wisdom of God, and therefore, the transmission of divine wisdom is very personal and immediate, unlike the Pharisees, whose inheritance of religious tradition and wisdom involved many of their forerunners through many centuries.
2. The knowledge of spiritual truths requires divine revelation, and hence, intelligence and mental excellence alone are not enough to acquire them. Divine revelation occurs to those who earnestly seek it with an attitude of utter humility, complete surrender, and total trust.
The revelation of spiritual truths to the childlike and spiritual truths hidden from the wise and the learned discard the notion that divine revelation is a human achievement.
The fact that there is something that always escapes the grasp of reason can be taken as an example of what Jesus means here.
If our pursuit of spiritual wisdom fails to affect our lives, it will be a mere intellectual exercise.
The words of Jesus invite us to enter into a transformative journey in which our relationship with God would be intimate through our spiritual pursuit.
