Rom 4:1-8; Lk 12:1-7
In today’s gospel, as he condemns the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, Jesus helps us realize the importance and urgency of recovering true spirituality.
Just as hypocrisy was projected as true religiosity in Jesus’ time, some false prophets in contemporary times have been minting money in the name of God. It is no exaggeration to say that God needs rescue from such fake God-Men!
Jesus is cautioning the crowd about the corrosive influence of Pharisaic hypocrisy. In that regard, Jesus clarifies that whatever does not ennoble us is not from God and is not God.
While warning us about the semblance of God in hypocritical religiosity, Jesus wants us to fear God alone, to whom everything is known and from whom nothing can be hidden.
The holy fear of God will reassure us of God’s never-ending providence through our trials and tribulations.
Let us pray for God’s grace to discern the good and relentlessly walk the path that leads to God!
