Humility and Obedience!

Is 26:7-9,12,16-19; Mt 11:28-30

In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to learn from his humility and obedience.

Jesus’ invitation to ‘those who labor and are burdened’ does not suggest that we desert our labor. Rather, we accept the yoke of Christ and work with a renewed spirit. In other words, the rest and consolation given by Jesus would help us continue the good work we have been doing.

Secondly, we learn from Jesus to do service in perfect freedom. Though ‘service’ and ‘freedom’ sound oxymoronic, Jesus is the only master who can teach us the art because ‘He humbled himself and became obedient’ (Phil 2:8) to carry out his Father’s will for humanity.

This is why accepting Jesus as our Master does not amount to servitude but to friendship.

Jesus, the servant leader par excellence, teaches us to master compassion, love, and forgiveness.
