Jb 38, 12-21; 40:3-5; Lk 10:13-16
Today’s Gospel highlights the frustration of the disappointed Jesus.
Why would a good person like Jesus end up disappointed and frustrated?
We can only attribute such disappointment to the unresponsive behaviour of those who received the word and witnessed its power in Jesus.
It is not only that they were unresponsive to Jesus’ hard work but also treated his proclamation very lightly.
As a result, the generosity of the Gospel message had to contend with a dismal response from the occupants of those cities.
Here, what we cannot overlook in Jesus’ frustration is his sincerity, which gave everything to facilitate repentance and reconciliation among his listeners.
The same Jesus would not hesitate for a moment if only those people had shown even slight signs of repentance.
As such, Jesus’ righteous indignation only indicates his toil that never yielded any fruits.
Jesus is an example of how good people are treated in our society too.
Though Jesus is momentarily hurt by the cold indifference of his audience, he never lets it affect his mission.
Jesus moves on and moves ahead.
Let us pray that we may never be discouraged and always move ahead with proclaiming the love of God.
