Is 26:1-6; Mt 7:21, 24-27
Today’s Gospel highlights the importance of actionable faith.
The words of Jesus help us realize that he abhors paying lip service but commends actions that exemplify our faith.
Here it must be noted that while we are saved by God’s abundant grace, we also complement God’s saving action through deeds that justify our faith.
In this sense, our cooperation with God’s will carries a huge significance.
But what is the reward for Christians who understand faith as goodness in action?
When hearers of the word also become the doers, such commitment earns the reward of a sibling relationship with Jesus.
We call God ‘Our Father’ because He is the Father of all the baptized.
What we celebrate at Christmas is Jesus, the Son of God, coming to fulfill God’s will on earth. If so, we all become the brothers and sisters of Jesus by carrying out God’s will.
Thus, by doing God’s will on earth, we all share a sibling relationship with Jesus.
Let us pray that we may fulfill God’s will like our elder brother Jesus, the Son of God.
