Faith Expressed in Life!

Is 1:10,16-20; Mt 23:1-12

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that faith should enjoy an inseparable union with practice.

By saying that the Scribes and the Pharisees occupy the chair of Moses, Jesus accepts the authority they exercise.

However, Jesus cautions his disciples against the unashamed hypocrisy of the religious leaders who, though preaching God’s words, did not care to practice them.

They put the burden of the law on people but showed no example.

Theirs was a religion of pride and ostentation.

They could show off their phylacteries, but not their character.

Jesus exposes the unhealthy divide between faith and life that characterized the lives of the religious elites and cautions his disciples not to repeat the mistake.

Jesus intends that all that we do must reveal and give glory to God.

The only way to make people find God in our lives is through humility and servanthood.

When we get real with our virtue of humility, God becomes the center of our lives.

That is the moment for faith to express itself in our lives.
