Acts 13:44-52; Jn 14:7-14
Today’s Gospel highlights what a God-centered life should look like.
Jesus’ message to his disciples reveals his intimacy with his Father, and that is what defines his earthly mission.
We can understand Jesus’ message in two ways.
1. Letting God Be Seen: Jesus came revealing the God who the people had never seen in person. Becoming the invisible face of his Father, Jesus let God be seen in his life. In Jesus, people sensed that God was present in their midst, and that is why they were reminded of God when Jesus performed mighty deeds (Mt 9:8). Jesus was content in letting God be seen in whatever he did and invited his disciples to manifest such oneness with God as he did with his Father.
2. Letting God Be Glorified: For Jesus, our lives have to be lived from the perspective of God, as he himself became an example of it. The same was articulated by St. Ignatius of Loyola when he revealed his motto as Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the greater glory of God). In Jesus’ view, if God is not the object of our love, our act may just be selfish. At the same time, it would be improper to conclude that Jesus’ act of revealing God was self-effacing. Instead, Jesus asserted his identity from Divine Sonship. Jesus invites us to lead a life that glorifies God.
Let us pray that our lives may glorify God by radiating Him in all that we are and aspire to be.
