Jas 1:12-18; Mk 8:14-21
Today’s Gospel deals with the disbelief of the disciples and Jesus’ disappointment.
The disciples are worried about not having enough bread for the people in the boat.
Having witnessed Jesus feeding a crowd of 4000, the disciples should have believed that even with one loaf, Jesus would feed the small number of people on the boat.
Their faithlessness must have truly hurt Jesus.
The situation reminds me of a quote: ‘Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you.’
Sometimes we forget the lessons from our past, and our learning is only partial.
The disciples of Jesus are characterized by the same failure.
Reading today’s Gospel, we understand that growing in faith is about dispelling our disbelief as well.
