Col 1:1-8; Lk 4:38-44
There are three parts to today’s gospel. I am more fascinated by the first part where Jesus heals the mother-in-law of Peter.
We read that Simon Peter’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever. Jesus “stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.”
The healing we receive from Jesus is not to stay stuck in passive inactivity. It is a call to movement. It is a call to service.
The mother-in-law of Peter becomes the perfect symbol of what happens or what should happen when we experience healing from Jesus. She is on her feet again. She starts moving. She starts serving ‘others.’
Let Jesus heal us so that we may find our movement to serve others.

I have to tell you, I never thought of this in that light. What great insight. And it is such a short passage! Thank you for your reflection. Great way to start my day.
Love being reminded to be always mindful of the call to service.
