Healing Follows Recognition!

1 Kgs 8:1-7,9-13; Mk 6:53-56

Today’s Gospel is an invitation to ‘recognize’ Jesus.

Growth in Christian moral life happens only in proportion to our ability to recognize Jesus and what he can do to alter our lives.

What happens when we do not recognize Jesus?

A blind man begged all his life. One day, he died. After his passing, people discovered that the vessel he used to beg was made of gold. If only he had known that!

If not for our recognition of Jesus, we may well behave like the blind beggar.

In the Gospel, people’s response to Jesus’ presence is our inspiration to recognize him.

When they recognize Jesus, the recognition opens them to immense possibilities.

Expressions like ‘wherever they heard he was’ and ‘whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered’ only facilitate our understanding of what the person and name – ‘Jesus’ meant to them.

As many as touched the ‘tassel’ of his cloak were healed.

Their experience of healing follows their capacity for recognition.

If only we recognized Jesus within us, amid us, around us, and over us!

The recognition of God’s universal presence will change our lives for the better.
