The Communal Dimension of Faith!

Acts 12:24-13:5; Jn 12:44-50

In today’s Gospel, Jesus helps us understand the communal dimension of faith.

Through his exposition, Jesus shows how he is the visible representation of the invisible God.

To listen to Jesus is to listen to God. Likewise, to see him is to see God.

Hence, ‘faith in Jesus’ also means ‘faith in the one who sent him.’

Since God and Jesus are thus inseparable, acceptance or rejection of Jesus amounts to faith or disbelief in the one who sent him.

Through Jesus’ explanation, we witness that faith is essentially communal.

Hence, Christians are not a group of individuals, disconnected from one another.

Rather, every Christian individual carries the weight of representing the entire believing community all the time.

This is how every Christian is transformed into a witness of God’s love.

Also, it is from this communal dimension of faith that we assert the correlation between the love of God and the love of neighbor.

Let us pray that our communal understanding of faith may result in an authentic love of God and humanity.
