The Lamb of God!

Ez 37:21-28; Jn 11:45-56

Today’s Gospel follows Jesus raising Lazarus to life (verses 38-44).

Let us look at the irony: when Jesus is giving life to Lazarus, his enemies plan to take away his!

Another element that deserves our attention is the statement of Caiaphas, the high priest.

The religious leader makes a radical political statement.

However, theologians feel that the high priest’s cynical political judgment ironically contains a profound theological truth.

What he talks of is a scapegoat mechanism that is politically employed.

Whereas Jesus is not the scapegoat but the Lamb of God who gave his life as a ransom for many.

Hence, it is not that Jesus’ life is taken away, but he gives it willingly.

I believe that this passage is the right entry into the Holy Week.

Let us thank and praise God for the self-sacrifice of Jesus that saved us all!
