1 Sm 15:16-23; Mk 2:18-22
Today, Jesus helps us understand the newness of his Gospel message.
We need to pay attention to the words of Jesus. Jesus is not against fasting. Nor is he denying or disregarding the old ways, saying that they are meaningless anymore.
Rather, Jesus has established the new and therefore insists that the old has to give way to the new.
One relevant example is the gentile orientation of his proclamation. His ‘inclusive’ message is the ‘new cloth’ and ‘new wineskin.’
Jesus invites us to be inventive about our proclamation of the Gospel.
Let us pray that we may reflect God’s concerns in our mission!
