Eph 2:12-22; Lk 12:35-38
Today’s gospel highlights faithfulness and responsibility through the servant imagery.
Jesus explains discipleship through the goodness of the wakeful servant.
The wakeful servant offers us a couple of important insights.
1.Jesus shows the servant’s wakefulness as his faithfulness to his master. In the absence of the master, the servant could have mismanaged the household if he had so wanted. But even in the absence of his master, the servant is faithful and sincere.
2. The servant proves himself very responsible too. We should take note that the responsible servant does not seek appreciation from the master through his wakefulness. Rather, being responsible is so habitual to him that his master is pleased with him.
Jesus wants his disciples to inherit the goodness of the wakeful servant.
Let us pray that goodness may become our habitual virtue.
