Acts 12:24-13:5a; Jn 12: 44-50
Today’s Gospel highlights what it means to have faith in at least three ways.
1. To Have Faith Is to See the Father: In his address, Jesus makes it clear that faith in God requires us to have faith in him. Here, Jesus announces the inextricable relationship between him and his Father. Thus, faith in God and faith in Jesus are one and the same, and they go hand in hand.
2. To Have Faith Is to Walk Out of Darkness: Faith is the light of Christian life. Hence, those who have no faith in Jesus bring condemnation on themselves. Here, we must also remember that God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn it (Jn 3:17). Jesus came to redeem us, not to judge. Faith in Jesus takes us out of darkness and leads us to salvation.
3. To Have Faith Is to Enter into Eternal Life: Again, Jesus proclaims that the way to eternal life begins with our faith in him. And we must remember that the opposite is true as well. Rejection of Christ is a warrant for our destruction. It is faith that puts us on the right path and direction. It is that path that will lead us to the glory of eternal life.
Let us pray that we may grow in our faith in just the way Jesus desires.
