Dn 2:31-45; Lk 21:5-11
In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about the destruction of the Jerusalem temple and future events.
But what is the purpose behind Jesus’ pronouncements on the end of times?
Jesus sends a warning signal to people who were admiring the external beauty of the temple rather than the One residing in it.
The Jews prided themselves on their chosenness, God-given laws, and religious observances, all the while remaining peripheral and shallow in their relationship with God.
They were not worried about their spiritual intimacy with the Creator and busied themselves with external shows.
It is to this crowd that Jesus directs the warning. It is as if Jesus is asking them to consider their response to God at the time of judgment.
In reality, Jesus came to give us all life and life in abundance. To partake of Jesus’ promises, we need to manifest repentance and achieve conversion of heart.
Our conversion is the starting point for building spiritual intimacy with God!
