Acts 13: 44-52; Jn 14: 7-14
Today’s Gospel invites us to deepen our faith in Jesus, knowing that through him, we encounter the heavenly Father.
Jesus inspires us with three profound insights.
Father in Me: In response to Philip’s request, Jesus reveals that ‘Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.’ Here, Jesus intends to show that God is not a hidden or distant reality but makes Himself manifest in Jesus – in the way he proclaims and lives out love, mercy, and compassion. Jesus wants us to realize that faith in him cannot be a mere intellectual exercise but a relationship that helps others understand the God who resides in us.
Like Me: Jesus helps us understand that if our faith in him is strong and deep-rooted, we will do the works that he himself does. When our faith is understood as a loyal love for Christ, then it manifests itself in owning Jesus’ mission and vision. Here, we are called to recognize that ‘asking in Jesus’ name’ is more about aligning our hearts with his mission. Radiating Jesus means desiring what he desires.
Greater Than Me: Jesus also promises that his disciples will do ‘even greater things.’ Does it mean that his disciples will surpass him? We are not to understand ‘greater works’ in terms of spectacular miracles. ‘Greater works’ is about the Gospel’s greater reach so that his disciples, empowered by the Holy Spirit, will take the Gospel from the regions of Judea and Galilee to the ends of the earth. True greatness is to become faithful witnesses to the Gospel.
Let us pray that, in our love for Christ, we may take the Gospel far and wide.
