1 Sam 8:4-7,10-22; Mk 1:1-12
Today’s Gospel invites us to reflect on the charity of the ‘fabulous four’!
I am fascinated by those four nameless men who are remembered thanks to their charity toward the needy neighbor.
If we descend to the details, we understand that their charity is not an ordinary deed.
1.All four possess the goodwill that the paralytic should be healed.
2. They believe that Jesus will perform the healing.
3. Hence, they carry him to where Jesus is.
4. They leave no stone unturned to get him into the presence of Jesus.
Within the healing narrative, they are not mentioned again.
Their charitable attitude acts as a bridge between the needy man and God’s mercy.
For the Scribes who hold on to the legalistic tradition, the need of man and the mercy of God are nothing.
Whereas these nameless men take upon themselves the need of the man and go to any extent to find a solution for it.
We are disciples of Christ whenever we consider the problems of others as our own!
We are disciples of Christ if we are like one of the fabulous four!
